Roll Demonstrates New Technologies for
Converging Markets at Graph Expo 2004

Chicago, IL (October 10, 2004) - Roll Systems brings versatile digital print feeding and finishing solutions suitable for both print-on-demand and transaction processing to Graph Expo in Chicago this week. Roll introduces new digital technologies in the areas of highlight color, in-line converting, and intelligent proofing.

A prototype color imprinting system is being shown in Roll's booth #3675, in-line with Roll's ThreeUp™ System, fed by an IBM Infoprint® 4100 printer. The color imprinting system, first demonstrated at the Drupa show in May, provides low cost in-line digital color highlighting to digital monochrome printer users. The color system will be printing yellow highlights along with color logos and marketing messages on sample two-up and three-up printed utility bills. The ThreeUp System cuts, slits and stacks three-up printing, as well as providing slit/merge capability for two-up printing. ThreeUp's stack diversion functionality (stacks are spaced apart without interleaving for superior quality) maintains stack quality to allow off-line binding without jogging for book and manual applications.

Also in-line with the ThreeUp System is a three-hole punch module, demonstrating one element of Roll's digital in-line converting product line. Other in-line converting solutions available from Roll include a running micro-perforator, strip cut and gutter cut options.

Roll's intelligent proofing is exhibited in a pair of demonstrations in the Roll booth. Roll's Web Vision™ System is shown, in-line with Roll-to-Roll System. Web Vision is a print production quality control system that provides automated proof of image quality, process quality, and print content quality for digital printer users. A technology demonstration of an in-line MICR verifier is also shown.

Roll's new MultiUp™ System is shown in Roll's booth stacking 18-up, 17.5 x 27" sheets, suitable for folding into book signatures in an off-line operation. The MultiUp System consists of Roll's new large format stacker, along with unwinder and cutter modules. The system handles sheets up to 36" long, in basis weights as light as 10# bond.

Roll exhibits in a number of other locations around the Graph Expo floor. Xerox's popular iGen3® digital color production press is being fed sheets cut from a roll by Roll's DocuSheeter® iG roll feed system (developed jointly with Xerox Special Information Systems), in Xerox booth #1431. A Roll-to-Roll System provides feeding and finishing for a Kodak Versamark® VT3000 in the Kodak booth. Böwe Bell & Howell is using five Roll inserter unwinders to feed inserters across their product line in their booth #3011. Finally, Xeikon shows a Roll Digital Color Unwinder feeding 50" diameter rolls of paper to a Xeikon 5000.
